No escape from the rain

Words and music by Richard Homer

4/4, 120 bpm

Am G

The French window curtains / flap in despair

F E

phone wire hum / monsoon breakers roar

Am G

I elbow back the curtain, to / gaze at the weather

F E

the sky couldn’t care it / continues to pour

Am E Am

Am E Am

but there’s no / escape from the / rain

Am C/GC

apart from / extra, / unwanted / rain

FC/GC

nothing / no / nothing / is out / there

a young girl on her bike / replaces the chain

to explore the remnants of the / wet afternoon

in an otherwise empty / unexciting place

a trio of shouting bike boys / play out of tune

but there’s no / escape from the / rain

from a quiet lightless lamp on a / grubby cupboard top

a gust of wind blows some / paper to the chair

tree, lane are wet through / just like poor clothing

in a washing machine without / affection or care

I tickle mini stubble with the / top of the pen

hanging in apathy, / bare legs on the arm chair

I begin to think that / apart from the rain

nothing or anything or / anyone can be out there

piano rain coming in / pizzicato glistening

on the ant infested / bamboo to the rear

quiet bird chattering, / insect half whispering

they know new raw, rough rain is / going to appear

but there’s no / escape from the / rain

but there’s no / escape from the / rain

AmC/GC

there’s no / escape / no / escape

FC/GC

no / escape / escape from the / rain
